Strangler Fig Pattern
The Strangler Fig pattern incrementally replaces a legacy system by building new functionality around its edges while gradually migrating existing functionality. The new system grows around the old one — intercepting calls, routing some to the new implementation and others to the legacy system — until the old system can be decommissioned. Named after the fig tree that grows around a host tree and eventually replaces it.
